Looking for a Church? |
|
It’s not that we have all the answers – we are looking to make our life better and to make the life of the world better with God’s help. People come to church for a variety of reasons. We assume that, because you are here at our website, in some way the Spirit of God drew you here. The Episcopal Church is often spoken of as being protestant yet catholic. With our roots in the English Reformation of the 1500s, we stand squarely in the reformed (Protestant) tradition. But we also maintain a liturgical style of worship and many sacramental understandings that are in many ways similar to Roman Catholic tradition. We consider ourselves directly descended from the Early Church and we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Holy Eucharist (also known as Mass, Holy Communion, or the Lord’s Supper) is at the center of our regular Sunday worship. This communion meal celebrates Christ’s presence among us in the form of bread and wine and is offered to anyone who comes with a sincere desire to receive it. Our rich and diverse musical tradition is reflected in our 10 AM services. Many former Roman Catholics as well as Protestants of many denominations have found a comfortable home at Saint Andrew’s-in-the-Valley. We are a small enough congregation that you can count on people knowing you by name and large enough to offer diversity. As a parish we are deeply committed to doing God’s work in the world, reaching out to those in need through our Community Food Pantry, weekly Sunday Dinner Bell meal program, as well as numerous additional outreach projects throughout the year. COMMUNITY OUTREACH We have a strong year-round membership as well as a considerable number of friends and affiliate members, people whose primary parish is elsewhere but who have seasonal connections to this area. During our Sunday 10 AM services we provide childcare for young children and a lively church school program for school-age children during the school year, with children joining their families midway through the service for communion. Youth and Adult educational offerings are also provided. Children are welcome at all our services. We invite you to join us as we share in God’s grace and challenge ourselves to follow Christ.
